Commitment...

As candidates for Town Supervisor and Town Board we are committed to:

  • Listening to and working hard for Town residents
  • Open government & accountability
  • Providing quality public service (i.e., emergency services: fire/ambulance; highway; recreation; etc.) to Town residents at a reasonable cost
  • Continued positive cooperation and partnership among local governments and public service providers
  • Positive and effective communication
  • Prudent fiscal planning and budgeting
  • Sound economic development and environmental quality to ensure a positive future for the Town
  • Preserving our uniqueness and precious resources while enhancing ways for responsible growth
  • Consideration, research, innovative thinking, and careful planning regarding all issue brought before the Town Board
  • Global and thoughtful decisions to help guide future and long-range planning
  • Continuing to support and foster the much appreciated volunteer spirit throughout our communities

Dryden’s Communities. The Town of Dryden covers a lot of ground. The town contains a rich collection of local community areas: Bethel Grove, Ellis Hollow, Etna, Varna, North Dryden, and the Villages of Dryden and Freeville. We are committed to helping local residents maintain distinctive communities and important values.

Local Cooperation & Communication. The diversity of community interests makes it essential that the town board be an initiator in building bridges and promoting cooperation among local governments and public service providers in the town.

  • We support regular forums to discuss plans and emerging problems with those the town needs to work with in effectively serving citizens. These groups include: the school districts, villages, community associations and fire companies.

Volunteer Spirit. Dryden has a long history of volunteerism which is rooted in the good will of its citizens. The town board must support and foster this volunteer spirit.

  • The town board has to carefully steward both tax resources and the equally valuable community resource of volunteer good will. We will deal in a trustworthy manner in managing both of these community assets.

Planning, Economic Development and Environmental Protection. Dryden has a great future. Town government has a critical role in helping to foster sound economic development and environmental quality. We must put effective and consistent planning tools in place to maintain this balance and ensure a positive future.

  • We support citizen review of the current draft updating of the town's comprehensive plan and adoption upon revision.
  • As a follow-up to the revision of the comprehensive plan, we support a infrastructure and planning action plan with a timeline to help implement key features of the updated comprehensive plan. Without action “plans remain plans” and our land use protection goals are neglected.
  • We support the development of an Economic Development Action Committee to work cooperatively with the town’s villages and community associations. The committee, with business membership, can provide a positive and energizing force in communicating with employers and in helping to identify needs and public barriers faced by the business community. This committee can also provide a focus for initiating action on new ideas like tourism and agricultural related development.

Effective Government. The town board must continue prudent management in order keep taxes low and town finances in healthy condition while providing quality public services.

  • We support the development of a citizen friendly budget and multi-year budget planning to improve the town's services and long term fiscal health.
  • We support an overall assessment of the town’s business practices to assess needed administrative changes — including the development of a practical plan for incorporating the new Environmental Planner into the existing town administration.
